Last month I wrote about Uh-Oh Time For Bush, but right now it's Auch Time For Bush.
Last week the US Government gave up on trying to persuade the UN Security Council to keep US soldiers immune to the International Court Of Justice. Although it was quite inevitable given the recent scandals in Iraqi prisons, this was a severe blow to Bush's politics.
On June 28th, national law gave him a second.
On June 28th, the United States Supreme Court Of Justice issued rulings 73, 74 and 75. Without going into much detail of these rulings, together they overthrow the Bush administration's argument that the detainees are neither prisoners-of-war nor enemy combatants, instead inventing a new term, the "unlawful enemy combatant". Therefore they had no rights whatsoever they argued.
US Supreme Court has now clearly stated that, since they are held on US Territory, the Courts (of course) DO have jurisdiction, and thus the humans (excuse me, "unlawful combatants") actually HAVE rights (that was a no-brainer, right?).
As soon as it became clear that the SC was going to look into the matter, they told that right about this time they would come with a decision.
Bad thing: "right about this time" is a few months away from the elections, and this wíll add to the downfall of Bush.
BTW: $7,274,334,972,199.15. The US national debt. Rising about $42 billion a month... Economically B. could do better as well if you ask me...
