In December 2000, oil-geologist Dr. C.J. Campbell held a
lecture at the University of Clausthal, Germany.
Some quotes from the lecture:
"There is now 1 barrel of oil found for every 4 consumed.""Conventional oil discovery peaked in the 1960's""The last oil shocks were no more than minor tremors""The illusion of "Reserve Growth" is a cause of great misunderstanding" (remember Shell?)
"...but the United States will be in serious difficulties. There is, I fear, a strong danger of some ill-considered military intervention to try to secure oil." (remember... well...)
It is an hour-long eye-opener (and I do mean almost every minute of it) about peak discovery and peak production of oil in the world. He first puts all the data into proper perspective, and from that data he goes on to make some predictions.
Not alone does he hint to the Shell reserve cutback and the Iraq war, he also foresees the
recent eventsA true scientist, who in my opinion cannot be enough heard.
But before all you environmentalists go "WoWie!", be warned that he considers the problem so acute that he is prepared, even stressing the need, to use ALL other forms of power, including nuclear (he's a scientist...).
I personally believe that we're all set for some mayor problems when all of a sudden science proves politicians and economists wrong, and this guy is way to rational to ignore or just not believe.
