Startin' To Get Fed Up With Google

posted Friday, 18 June 2004

I'm starting to get pretty fed up with Google.
Call me a spoiled user, and maybe I am, but it's starting to get ridiculous. I used to proudly tell people you could find neigh anything on the Internet, if you only knew how to use Google.
Now this: The so-called Florida update. I've recently acquired more knowledge on Search Engine Optimization than I would've liked, but apparently it now is all defunct thanks to either Topic Sensitive Page Ranking or a Hilltop-based Expert Ranking system (I'm a believer of the latter).
I don't particularly care about these things, but the main point is: Google has to give me what I want when I search for *whatever*. That's the basis of a good search engine and it's exactly what Google is now failing miserably at. No matter what combo of keywords I use, categorial the same, mostly useless crap keeps coming up!
And for my employer it's even worse: Our website won't turn up anywhere unless you specifically enter more than one of the words in our company name. The lucky part for us is that our main competitor was deleted from Google altogether.
On thing I've got to admit though: Google is still the best. I didn't anticipate this move for quite some time yet, but I've tried the alternatives (feeling like a blasphemist), and Yahoo/MSN or AltaVista or local boy Ilse.nl are all even worse (which in itself is rather mysterious since so many people use them), so we'll have to live with it until Google got it fixxed...
